Triangle Defintions

Triangle Definitions

Congruent–whenever two figures have the same size and shape

Congruent triangles–triangles are congruent if and only if their vertices can be matched up so that the corresponding parts (angles and sides) of the are congruent.

CPCTC–stands for Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent.

Congruent Polygons–they are congruent if and only if their vertices can be matched up so their corresponding parts are congruent.

A line and a plane are perpendicular if and only if they intersect and the line is perpendicular to all lines in the plane that pass through the intersection.

Isosceles Triangle Definitions

Legs–two congruent sides

Base–The third side.

Right Triangle Definitions

Hypotenuse–the side opposite the right angle, also the largest side.

Legs–The other two sides

Perpendicular bisector–a line (or ray or segment) that is perpendicular to the segment at its midpoint.

Distance from a point to a line (or plane)–is defined to be the length of the perpendicular segment from the point to the line (or plane).
